but-thats-its-own-story said: That’s 4Kids for you, although it might also be they figured the audience wasn’t familiar with the term “esper”. Or maybe they were too uncomfortable making “occult” references (even in a show like YuGiOh!) to translate “esper” to the more familiar term “psychic” (even though that’s what they did for pokemon). Or both. 4kids may have been professionals but they were also the paragon of poor editing decisions.
